ACTIVE INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT PROGRAM (IOP)
Where Therapy Meets Movement. Real Recovery Starts Here
At True North Recovery Services, our Active IOP isn’t your typical treatment program. Built for individuals who are ready to fully engage in their recovery—physically, mentally, and emotionally—this program fuses clinical therapy with structured physical movement to create real, lasting transformation.
This is recovery with momentum.
Why Active IOP Works
The Science Behind Somatic Therapy
Traditional talk therapy plays a critical role in recovery, but it’s not the whole picture. Research shows that trauma, anxiety, and addiction impact the nervous system and are stored in the body. True healing requires engaging the body as part of the recovery process.
According to a 2024 peer-reviewed study, somatic and movement-based therapies can “significantly improve emotional regulation, reduce anxiety symptoms, and enhance physiological resilience,” offering measurable outcomes in treating mental health conditions (Antos et al., 2024).
By integrating exercise, breathwork, and body awareness directly into group sessions, our clients experience real-time shifts in how they feel, think, and respond—both inside and outside of treatment.
Clinicians Who Walk the Walk
Each group is facilitated by clinicians who are dual-trained in both therapy and fitness. Their credentials include:
Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC) & Certified Addiction Specialists (CAS)
NASM Certified Personal Trainers
Precision Nutrition Coaches
Yoga and Trauma-Informed Somatic Movement Specialists
Program Format
Active IOP meets three days per week. Each session lasts 3 hours and includes:
- 1.5 hours of structured movement-based work (strength, mobility, breathwork, or recovery-focused fitness)
- 1.5 hours of evidence-based group therapy (CBT, DBT, relapse prevention, and emotional processing)
This structure is intentionally designed to activate the nervous system, build resilience, and prime the brain for deeper therapeutic work.
Who Its For
This program is ideal for:
- Adults (18+) who want a more dynamic approach to outpatient treatment
- Individuals stepping down from higher levels of care
- Anyone who’s physically capable of participating in structured movement
